Why do we care? What makes us live and die by our professional, HS, or even MS/little league teams of one kind or another? When did GAMES become such a big deal?
I was not gracious as a parent when my children "played" games growing up. I am not gracious as a grandmother, but I try to be quiet about it. Last week when Jacob was playing in a football game against another team, it would not have taken much for me to give a referree a verbal lashing. Yes, I am crazy.
As I write this, the Rangers are playing the 2nd game of a series against the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. I'm watching in the family room. I have chastized Rangers; I have cheered Rangers. Steve is watching the Husker football game in another room.
Athletic competition -- it will be with us until the end of my life, for sure. But, I wonder . . . is it just a distraction from the realities of other parts of our lives? Probably.
In the meantime, I hope the Rangers KILL the Devil Rays.
